Currumbin Creek

The oil painting beautifully captures the serene essence of the wooden boardwalk winding through the mangroves of Currumbin Creek on a clear spring day with the tide at its peak. Measuring 18cm x 20cm, the artwork reflects a moment frozen in time, just before the beloved old boardwalk was replaced by a modern structure. Lush greenery surrounds the walkway, showcasing the vibrant foliage and the soft, dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves. The scene is alive with the gentle movement of the water below, inviting both walkers and joggers to immerse themselves in nature's tranquility. This painting not only highlights the unique charm of the location but also serves as a nostalgic reminder of a cherished pathway that has seen countless footsteps along its path.

Describe artwork

This original oil painting captures a poignant moment of beach worming, a skill passed down from my father to me during the late 60s and early 70s at Tugun, on the Gold Coast of Australia. The scene is set on an overcast summer afternoon, as we meticulously searched the sandy shoreline, gathering beach worms for our fishing adventure the following day. My father not only taught me the art of catching these elusive creatures for our trips but also encouraged me to sell them to local bait shops for 20 cents each. The cycle of tradition continued as I later taught my own children and young nephews the same technique during our cherished family holidays on Fraser Island, now known as K'gari, the world's largest sand island. This painting encapsulates memories of connection, learning, and the joys of family bonding through the simple act of beach worming.
